Keeping your eye on the ball

Anne, the PalmTree Pundit who homeschools in Hawaii, had a lovely post a few days ago about the focus we need to keep on whatever engine powers our work — even if that engine can also be tiring and annoying.  In homeschooling, it’s the children who sometimes get in the way of all the wonderful educational work you’re doing.  In the case of lawyering, it’s those darn clients who do irrational things that destroy an otherwise perfectly symmetrical and wonderful case.  I think for many of us it’s worth remembering that the central point of our work is always going to be imperfect, and that we have to roll with that fact, rather than seeing it as a source of soul-destroying job frustration.
