In 2000 and 2004, the prevailing attitude amongst the side that lost (that would be the Democrats) was “You’re evil. How can we destroy you?”
What I’m seeing in 2008 in the blogosphere on the losing side (that would be conservatives) is “Where did we go wrong? How can we fix it?”
Very different attitudes — also exemplified by Helen’s cheery and clearly well-meant “Let the healing begin.” Why can the healing begin only when the Democrats are ascendant?
This is the same mindset that says that, in a close race, the recounts are final when the outcome finally favors the Democrat. If Lewis Carroll were writing it, he’d say: “Begin at the beginning and go on till the Democrats win: then stop.”
