That’s an awful lot of white men

Am I missing something, or does Obama’s cabinet boast more than its fair share of old white guys.  I know Daschle’s gone — thank goodness, give his ideas about health care reform — but that’s still a predominantly white, male cabinet.  Indeed, if you flip through the Vanity Fair slideshow of the people he’s selected for his administration, you’ll see that a whole lot of the power positions (as opposed to the soft or symbolic ones) are lily white.

Now, as you know, I have no bones to pick with choosing the best people for the job, regardless of race, color, creed, sexual orientation, etc.  If these are the best people (we’ll assume that they are for the sake of argument), then color, etc., shouldn’t matter.  But I suspect had a Republican president chosen same sex and hue for his core leadership positions, there would have been more clacking and clucking from the media class.

Also, is it me being stodgy, or is there something unnerving about political types puffing and preening like Hollywood stars for an expensive, but nevertheless sleazy and partisan magazine?
