How to decriminalize something

As best as I can tell, the big objection to Arizona’s law is that, despite being facially neutral, it will primarily effect Hispanics.  This isn’t because Arizona is targeting only Hispanics, it’s because Hispanics are the only targets.  There aren’t a lot of blond Danes wandering around Southern Arizona’s border towns.

It occurred to me that this line of thinking means that we have to revisit a whole bunch of laws on our books — and then get rid of them whenever a disproportionate number of malefactors fall within a specific politically correct class.  No matter the law’s facial neutrality, and no matter the benefit it confers on law abiding citizens of all colors, if it sweeps too many blacks or Hispanics or Asians or Martians into the net, it must be racist.

My brain hurts.
