Predictions are difficult, especially about the future

Don Quixote here.  For those who don’t know, I’m Bookworm’s friend who blog-sits when she is off on vacation or otherwise unavailable.  I’m not nearly as well read as Bookworm and don’t blog at all except to help her out.  But what I do mostly here is throw out an opinion or a question and encourage Bookworm’s readers, who are some of the most intelligent, involved, knowledgable and interesting people around to post their thoughts.  We’ve had quite a few interesting conversations while Bookie’s been gone.  So, pull up a chair and join in the conversation.

To get things started, what do you all predict will happen in November?  Personally, I’m not nearly as optimistic as it seems most Republicans are.  I doubt Republicans will take back either house although they should get the Democrats below the magic 60 in the Senate.  But the media machine will crank up, I’ll bet the economy will have a temporary (if artificial) recovery, and while there will be the normal mid-term gains, they will be well within historic norms.  What do you all (giving away my Southern roots I guess I should say “all y’all”) think will happen and why?
