Random stuff for Sunday afternoon

Mr. Bookworm, after watching a pro-gun control documentary yesterday, told me that the Tea Party’s entire secret subtext is racism and fascism.  I sent him this video.  I don’t know if he’ll watch it, but I did read this article about Flint, Michigan, which he claims shows how the 2nd Amendment crowd is destroying America’s cities.  I suggested that an alternative take was that the tax base vanished because unions and Progressive government made it prohibitively expensive to do business in Flint.  Tea Partiers, I said, aren’t about de-funding essential government functions (which is what happened in Flint), they’re about encouraging wealth creation by keeping money out of government boondoggles and market management.

San Francisco is apparently getting more conservative, not just in the wealthy districts, but in the poor and poorest districts.  In other words, every so slowly, the worms who have been ground into poverty and crime by Progressive politics seem to be turning.  Keep in mind, though, that San Francisco conservativism is still to the Left of just about anything and anybody else in America.  Still, it’s heartening.

A great man has died.  Another from the generation of heroes is gone.

He may be from America’s heartland, and he may have conservative family members, the Jerry Brown has appointed an arch Euro liberal to California’s PUC.  I do not see good times ahead.
