Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely — or Wag the Dog

At Treppenwitz, David Bogner describes a scenario in Israel in which both Olmert and the Shas opposition, blind to anything but their own desire to stay in government, sacrifice the country to disastrous politics.  This is not the kind of power of corruption one sees in someone like Mugabe, where it’s just naked greed for unlimited personal power.  Instead, this is almost more ugly because we see petty men simply clinging to their posts in a bureaucracy to save their comparatively small perks.Let’s hope Bogner is wrong.

By the way, the second part of the post title refers to a movie in which a President starts a war to deflect attention from a scandal — a movie that come out before Clinton and the Blue Dress.
