Get Frenchmen out of France, and they make remarkable citizens.  One only needs to look to the Huguenots of South Carolina, the Acadians of Louisiana, or to Ms. BWR herself.  But, as a student of history, I find no nation that has been more destructive of Western Civilization than France, from the philosophy of Rousseau to the creation of socialism, terrorism, and the modern police state.  Thus, when I say “the French,” referring to the French nation, I am using it decidedly as a pejorative.  The only reason I would ever willingly enter France is to drive out the Germans (no longer any need) or to relieve myself (may at some time be needed).

I am immensely gratified today to find that the AP is in full agreement.  “The French” indeed.
