Dianne Feinstein as the living embodiment of the Democrat party
Her decline and fall seem to match the Dem party’s trajectory over the decades. Thus, she’s a caricature, not just of herself, but of her party.
Dianne Feinstein is 89 years old and, thanks to her recent bout with shingles, she looks around 100 years old:

This is not a healthy woman, physically or mentally.
However, I have very different memories of DiFi. My mother knew DiFi back in the early 1960s because DiFi’s daughter and my sister were roughly the same age and attended the same preschool.
My mother had nothing good to say about DiFi but, in retrospect, that may have had more to do with my mother (who didn’t often have good things to say about people) than with DiFi herself. Additionally, Mom may have made the entire thing up out of whole cloth, including DiFi’s presence in her story. However, for what it’s worth, Mom said that it was a cooperative nursery school, requiring parents to pitch in, and DiFi didn’t cooperate as she should.
I was an infant then, so that’s not when I start remembering DiFi.
My memories of DiFi start in the mid-1970s when she’d already been involved in San Francisco politics for half a decade. (She was first elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1969.)
I attended Lowell High School in the second half of the 1970s. The principal then was James Kearny. (You can see a picture of him here, a couple of years before I got to Lowell.) If you are familiar with San Francisco, you know that Kearny Street is one of the main downtown thoroughfares. We were always told that Principal Kearny came from that family, although Wikipedia’s history on both Stephen W. Kearny and Philip Kearny Jr., either of whom could have been the street’s namesake, makes that seem unlikely. Nevertheless, the principal seemed politically connected, and we Lowellites definitely had opportunities to interact with City Hall and appear at events in the City.
When Pier 39, a Fisherman’s Wharf destination, had its grand opening in October 1978, the Lowell band played for the event. Feinstein, who was still a member of the Board of Supervisors, didn’t believe the Pier would open on time. She’d sworn that, if it did, she’d show up at the opening wearing a bikini. She sort of did, and how she handled that promise was considered a very good joke:
In the video, when Feinstein and the developer cut the banner, a crowd of young people in red jackets and black pants, with some holding instruments, suddenly appears in the background. That was the Lowell band, and I was one of those young people. That’s how I’ll always remember DiFi, at the top of her game, having fun at Pier 39.
The next time I saw DiFi was the television, six weeks later, when she became acting mayor of San Francisco after Dan White assassinated Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Dan White in November. The gay lobby made that all about White (as seen in the video below) but San Francisco lost her mayor that day, too.
DiFi discovered Moscone’s body, if I remember correctly, which must have been a terrible shock. However, she still comported herself with tremendous dignity in front of the world media. This is what launched Feinstein’s road to Congress.
Over the years, I met DiFi’s daughter and stepdaughter at social occasions and thought both were nice women. I watched DiFi’s move to Congress when I was still a Democrat, so I may well have voted for her.
Of course, as I became conservative, I came to despise DiFi’s politics. However, I never lost my respect for her accomplishments—and she was an accomplished woman, whether one liked her or not.
Now, though, Feinstein’s a decrepit husk, frail of body and apparently increasingly unsound of mind. That she still occupies such a lofty position is because, having attained power, she won’t let go. To me, DiFi has become the embodiment of the Democrat party, which was once decent and is now also fundamentally unsound.
I suspect some are scoffing when I talk about a past, decent Democrat party but it was. When I grew up, I lived in a Democrat world. My parents were Democrats, almost all my friends’ parents were Democrats, and the circles in which I moved (working- and middle-class) were mostly Democrat. Importantly, none of those people were leftists.
And yes, I know that the Democrat party was already home to leftism, but the people in my world weren’t corrupt leftists. They were working and middle-class people who loved Kennedy. They were patriots, they hated communists, and they wanted a government that worked for the little people. They also bought into the completely spurious belief that it was the Democrat party that was the savior of blacks.
That’s because, in California, the Democrats were less racist. There was no serious KKK in California. Instead, it was the old white-shoe Republicans who wrote covenants keeping blacks and Jews out of neighborhoods.
Indeed, one of the reasons everyone I knew was a Democrat was because I lived in a Jewish world. We may not have belonged to a synagogue, but 90% of my parents’ friends were Jewish, and they knew which California party discriminated against Jews. DiFi, by the way, is genetically Jewish and, while not religious (and a graduate of the Covenant of the Sacred Heart High School), she still identifies as Jewish.
Attractive, vibrant, intelligent DiFi was the embodiment of that Democrat party.
Over the years, though, just as DiFi has decayed, so has the Democrat party. It’s no longer a party that represents ordinary people within the relative confines of the Constitution. Instead, it’s a Maoist organization that represents the very rich nomenklatura, the criminal class, the race hustlers, and the activist LGBTQ++ crowd. It’s rotten inside and out, broken and hideous. DiFi has come to look like what the Democrat party is. No wonder Democrats are desperate to force her to retire. She reminds Americans that the party is decrepit and oozes a fatal corruption.
DiFi should have left politics while she still had dignity. And it’s high time that Americans leave the Democrat party. Both DiFi and the Dems are walking corpses and need to be retired.
By the way, if you want another analogy, DiFi’s decline also symbolizes San Francisco’s collapse from a beautiful city into a scary hellhole.
